On going ProjectsLEAD-IN The Baltic Network for Adult Learning is one of seven partners in this Grundtvig-project within the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. Lead partner is the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences inValmiera,Latvia.
The aims and objectives of Lead-In are based on two priorities defined for Grundtvig multilateral projects: 4.2.4 Quality assurance of adult learning including the professional development of staff; and 4.2.2 The role of adult education in strengthening social inclusion and gender equality, specifically developing methods for encouraging participation of men in areas where they are underrepresented.
Thus, the main aims of Lead-In project are: 1) To improve management of adult education by improving the skills and competences of adult education leaders (with special focus on increasing participation, involvement of men, inclusion); 2) To develop, test and disseminate an innovative and non-formal approaches of staff development: a mentoring programme for adult education leaders (mentoring based on blended learning approach, based on meetings and virtual communication via social networks); 3) To share the approaches and strategies for increasing participation and to learn from the best practices in partner countries; 4) To formulate and propose strategies for encouraging participation of men in adult learning.
The target groups which will be addressed during and after Lead-In project:
Direct target groups: 1) formal and informal leaders of non-formal adult education: managers, course organizers, training coordinators, project managers and coordinators, marketing managers, leaders of NGOs offering learning opportunities; 2) adult education institutions and NGOs offering adult learning opportunities; 3) stakeholders, trainers of adult education leaders; adult teacher trainers; professionals in education management;
Indirect target groups: all adult learners, men as participants in adult learning:
The background to Lead-In is the ET2020 and its benchmark of 15% for adult participation in lifelong learning, one of the strategies should be improving the skills of those who have the ability to influence participation: formal and non-formal adult education leaders. Higher participation will be achieved also by attracting those who are underrepresented and by improving access. Eurostat data on participation in adult education, with female participation above the EU average and male participation below the EU average, correlate with the early school leavers data where the male/female proportion is reverse. Thus, the aim of the project is to improve the skills of adult education leaders to lead in other people into the world of non-formal learning. The chosen method is mentoring (blended learning approach, meetings plus social network-based e-mentoring). Special focus of Lead-In project is to understand and learn strategies for increasing participation of men in adult education.
The Project outputs will be 1) Research report for partner countries covering such aspects as skills of adult education leaders, national and regional aspects of participation and gender balance, etc.; 2) European training session of mentors; mentoring sessions for adult education leaders in 5 EU countries; 3) European network of trained mentors for adult education leaders; 4) Mentor training program in e-book format in EN,LV, LT, ES, SE, BG languages; 5) Groups of trained education leaders in 5 EU countries; 6) Two publications summarizing case studies, findings, recommendations based on contributions of participants on a) "Mentoring for better skills of Adult Education Leaders: Methodology and Experiences" b) "Increasing Participation of Men in Adult Learning: Skills and Strategies" These will be publishes in EN, BG,LV, LT, ES, SE languages.
